National Rehabilitation Week 2017 Patient Success Kimberly Torella

Kimberly Torella, a 29-year-old accountant, will be celebrating her first year anniversary of surviving a stroke on Sept. 30, 2017. With no family history and no known risk factors, Kimberly woke up feeling shaky, dizzy and lightheaded. At first, she thought it may have been food poisoning, but her status worsened through the day as she began experiencing severe vomiting and headaches as well as tingling throughout her left arm. Before she knew it, she was completely paralyzed from the stroke. Kimberly chose HealthSouth Bakersfield Rehabilitation Hospital to help her become independent again. Walking, reading and typing were all important goals she sought to accomplish and through comprehensive therapy, she was able to. “The therapists are the most incredible people you will meet,” said Kimberly. “When you’re tired, they help you find that strength to keep going for one more step.”
